Sugar skulls with flashing eyes

Maya Isaksson chibitronics sugar skulls

I love experimenting and trying to come up with new ways of doing things. These sugar skulls was an idea that I got and needed to try to make. The idea is that the skulls are attached on sliders and the sliders are also the switch. So you can move the heads up and down making them light up or turn off the light that way. I also added an effect sticker with heartbeat effect because let's face it, effect stickers are super fun!

Hop on over to the post at the Chibitronics blog to see a full photo tutorial of how i made this card.

If you want to make a card like mine then you will need the following supplies from Chibitronics. The stamps are by Crafters Companion and sentiments from Heffy Doodle stamps.

Foil and sparkle butterfly

Maya isaksson design in papers minc butterfly

The reactive paint from Heidi Swapp is really fun to play with, I made a bunch of cards using foil for my posts at Design in Papers the last few weeks. This one was made with a stencil, pink foil and watercolors. The lovely stamp is by Sheena Douglass and I double embossed it and colored with Spectrum Sparkle pens. I made a bunch of backgrounds at once when I had the foil and the Minc out, and this was the last of them. I might experiment some more and make a few more. This is super fun.

I will start working on some special projects for October soon. I can't tell you more than that I'm super excited about this. You will definitely want to pencil in a visit to the blog then because you don't want to miss this :) Fun times ahead!

Stamping with alcohol markers

I was browsing through the tutorials on the Spectrum Noir blog for inspiration and found this by Linda Hill that looked like fun. Did you know you van stamp with your markers? I tried it and it turned out pretty cool. I used some mixed media style stamps by Crafters Companion that I wanted to ink up for a while now.

As you know the markers dry too quick to stamp after you color on the stamp, but if you fill a sprayer with clear alcohol you reactivate the ink (alcohol solves alcohol). I used some cleaning solution but you can use colorless blender or rubbing alcohol too. I also used it to clean up my stamps after that, I think that even if I didn't get it off it wouldn't stain unless you use some other solvent based ink but I got my stamps pretty clean using the cleaning solution. I wasn't brave enough to try it on clear stamps, I'm not sure if the alcohol and photopolymer will play nice but my rubber stamp didn't get hurt as far as I could see.

Merry Christmas mega post

Today is the day we celebrate christmas in Sweden so I wanted to wish you all a very merry christmas! I do it by posting all my left over christmas projects that haven't made it to the blog before. I hope you find something you like and I'm so glad you stopped by.

May isaksson tea dispenser

These are tea bag dispensers, I learned to make them by my very nice table neighbours on the crop I went to a few weeks ago. I did a tutorial on them for the Crafters Companion UK advent calendar so If you are interested you should check out their blog.

I made this with stuff I had out on the desk one day.

This is not a christmas card but I made it on the crop and thought I'd share it anyways.

I could not let the negatives go to waste when making the other card so this is a bonus one.

For a sketch challenge at the crop, I even used some patterned papers for this!

And lastly a gold embossed little thing, pretty fun with the cute pine cones!

More watercolor stamping

Design in papers crafters companion maya isaksson

I'm working full speed this week. I'm away for Meet & Greet this weekend, a big event for crafters, arranged by Design in Papers at Eriksbergshallen in Gothenburg. So I need to work ahed to get all my deadlines done for next week. I usually craft on the weekend, working on next weeks projects and maybe the week after if I'm in the zone. But now and then there's the weekend when I can't get to my craft room and then it's great to be able to do some quicker projects since I'm usually a slow crafter. The watercolor stamping technique that I made a tutorial on for Spectrum Noir is perfect for this.

The big feather is super pretty and is part of a set by Crafters Companion. The sentiment is from the same set. I just stamped the feather and the sentiment and finished off by splattering some Aqua Tints in gold over the panel. And there I had this weeks project for Design in Papers done and it still looks pretty good :)

I'll be back tomorrow with a Pretty Crafty Stuff creation. I hope to see you then!

For the full tutorial click here. I have just used the technique to add shadows around people so it was a first using it to make a sky and some greenery but I l really love how it turned out. I hope you'll go take a look at the full tutorial and let me know if you have any questions. Here are the markers and stamps I used for this card.

Foil on acetate and watercolor

Maya foiled acetate design in papers

Isn't it lovely when you get an idea in your head and try it out and it actually works like you intended to. Yay! I saw some heat resistent acetate when I was browsing my fav scrapbook store the other day, it was rather thin and not the thicker one I was looking for. But I saw the words laser printing on the package and got the idea in my head so I had to get it. Home I went and I printed out some digital Project Life cards on a page, got out my foil and laminator and when I was done I did a happydance because it turned out just as I wanted. I made a water coloured background using a few SpectrumAquas and I also very quickly watercolored a flower from Lawn Fawn and didn't even bother to make a sentiment because foil and watercolor was enough. I'm still very happy and oh, the possibilities. My acetate is by Crafters Companion and I used it with Fab Foil by WOW!, I'm sure there are other brands that will work as well, this is just what I had on hand and it worked great :)

Airbrushed canvas

Spectrum noir airbrush canvas maya isaksson wm

Instead of an art journal page I made this canvas for CiLi in Papers today. I used the ebrush with my Spectrum Noir markers and some masks. It was really fun playing with it and I love the result. I only added some gel pen and watercolor pencils as finishing touches.

I only used three colors of markers for the background, added a shade darker through the masks and I love how many different shades I got when the colors overlapped.

I'm thinking I should do a couple of more canvases to hang in a group, It didn't take too long since there wasn't any drying time in between layers.

I hope you enjoyed the inspiration. I hope I'll see you soon again! Have a lovely weekend!

I Wheelie Like You Hamster Card

Design in papers lawn fawn hamsterThis cute little critter is from Lawn Fawn and I used him for my card for Design in Papers this week. I found these frames that I sort of forgot I had and wanted to create a little scene in one of them.  I picked this black and white and made a little landscape using distress inks and hand cut masks. The hamster and wheel is colored using Spectrum Noir markers. You can't see the shadin very well in this image. We are taking care of a hamster while her owners are away and she's cream white and I tried to color this one like her.

Thanks for today. See you soon, I hope :)

Dare to dream

Design in papers lawn fawn

I made this card for Design in Papers, using a small Lawn Fawn stamp set that is very pretty. I used some small letter stamps to add the "dare to" to the dream sentiment and I really think it is a pretty card. The feathers are covered in Wink of Stella glitter pen and then a coating of Glossy Accent.

That's it from me today, thank you for visiting. I hope you got inspired <3

Let your dreams take flight

DipLawnFawnButterfliesW

Here's a card I made for this weeks post at Design in Papers. I made this card using the eBrush and Spectrum Noir markers, so much fun! Those butterflies are just lovely popping up from the page and flying away.
DipLawnFawnButterfliesW

Here's a close up of the butterflies. Bright and colorful and with no effort. I think the coloring of the butterflies took me like 30 seconds tops, including the time it took me to switch markers. Then I cut them out but that was also very quick since I just cut the wings and stamped the rest on the card. I must admit I kind of love this card <3 The Flutterin by set by Lawn Fawn is so versatile, I'll come back for it many times I'm sure.

Bonus, a card I made for the 30 days of coloring challenge 2. Also using the Flutter by set.

Wow_lawnfawn

Design in Papers arranged this really amazing event the last weeks. They invited Becky Higgins to Sweden to have classes in Stockholm and Gothenburg and I helped out a bit and took the classes myself. I got really inspired, she is really really nice. Just very sweet and attentive and so interesting to talk to and listen to. I really enjoyed it and feel very fortunate to have had the chance to do this, she does not travel much anymore and if you get the chance sometime I recommend it. She made me think about why I scrapbook, I really never thought about it before. It's just something I love to do. Anyways, I'm not scrapbooking much and I will stick to my cards because I love making them. But Project Life is really fun and I don't feel the need to blog my pages which I like. I do show almost everything I create here with you and it takes time editing and blogging so I like that I don't have to think about that and it really doesn't need to be perfect. It just needs to be done and that is what I need some days. Well, here is a picture of me and Becky, she was so nice taking pictures with everyone and signing everything you wanted. I got my scrap bag signed and it's kind of cool :)

I'm very lucky to get to meet all these awesome creative people. Everyone is so inspiring and it is a treat to get to know a bit of the person behind the name.

I'll be back in a few hours with a post for WOW, showing the new stamps I designed for them. I'm so very proud and happy about them! Don't miss it :)
