Cedar Lane layout

Design in papers maya isaksson cedar lane

This is a rare occasion, I made a layout and I also used a picture of.... wait for it.... ME! This almost never happens, mostly because I never get caught on photo. And because I don't like to scrap pictures of me. But the colors of Cedar Lane was perfect for the photo of my accidentally new hair color. I grabbed the wrong box of color in the store and my hair turned out a lot darker than I was used to.

I didn't use any patterned papers, just the decorations. They are all super pretty and since I stopped making 12x12 layouts they are often enough. I've stopped hoarding the decos. I realise now that I even if I throw almost all of them on one single layout it's ok. I'll probably not make enough layouts at a short period of time to run out of pretty decorations. ;) I do use them for cards too sometimes but it doesn't take many to make a card either. So I might as well use the ones I've got, they are no use hanging around in their packaging. Which someone seriously should re-make into ziplock bags for easier storage and use. The person putting them in those boxes obviously never used decorations ever in their lives. Ziplock bags, please, someone!

I'm glad I got in the mood for a layout, it doesn't happen often anymore. I seem to have gotten the card making bug and it's chronic ;) This is my post for Design in Papers this week. I'll be back soon but probably with a card or possible an art journal page.

The wonders of winter

Maya Isaksson Spectrum Noir snowman watermarked

I love using my eBrush for making backgrounds and I got inspired by this tutorial by Jenn Cochran to mask a stamped image and airbrush the sky. I've been looking for masking paper or post-it tape but couldn't find any so I just sprayed a sheet of printer paper with repositionable spray adhesive by Crafters Companion. The snowman stamp is by Stampendous. The text I can't remember the brand of, the packaging is no longer around.

I used IB1 and IB2 Spectrum Noir markers for the sky and GB8, OR1, OR2, IG7, CR3, CR5, GG1, PP1, BG2, BG3 for the snowman.

Spectrum Aqua background

Spectrum Noir auquamarker background maya isaksson watermarked

I've been away helping out on a scrapping event all weekend having a lot of fun and meeting a lot of creative people and I even got some time to craft myself. When I was packing my stuff I was thinking about what to bring and I decided on the Spectrum Aquas for coloring because they are easy to work with and don't take so much space in the bag. Well, it was a great thought and it would have been even better if I actually had packed them instead of just planning to pack them ;) So I arrived without anything to color with which made it hard to do anything at all so I mostly just talked with everyone and got no crafting done.

Fortunately I made this card a while back to blog today, using the Spectrum Aquas to create a background. I embossed the background stamp with the snow flakes first, using Silver Pearl embossing powder and then I did an ink smooching technique using the Kingfisher, Marine and Sea Green Spectrum Aquas. I really like the combinations of the colors, they blend beautifully together.

Doodle on your stamped images

Today I'm up with my last guest post at the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft blog. I used my Flight of Fancy stamps to make a card. To customise the images I doodled on the leafs and colored them using Gelatos. For full instructions and material go see my post here.

Here's a sneak peek of my project. I hope you get inspired to play around with altering your own stamped images. It's a great way to stretch your stamps!

I had a great time playing with all of the products they sent me for the guest posts and even though I got free product the opinions I share about them are my own.

You Shine

Pretty Crafty Stuff shine card

It's my turn to show something on the Pretty Crafty Stuff facebook page today and I love the light bulb. I embossed it with Neutral ultra shimmer embossing glitter from WOW! and ran it through a Xyron sticker maker to attach it to the watercolor panel. I stamped text using a Winnie & Walter stamp set that I love. That font on the "you"... <3

Anyways, still keeping it pretty simple to be done with everything before Meet & Greet this weekend. I'll be seeing a lot of my crafty wonderful friends and even though I'm technically working I hope to get some crafty time too.

More watercolor stamping

Design in papers crafters companion maya isaksson

I'm working full speed this week. I'm away for Meet & Greet this weekend, a big event for crafters, arranged by Design in Papers at Eriksbergshallen in Gothenburg. So I need to work ahed to get all my deadlines done for next week. I usually craft on the weekend, working on next weeks projects and maybe the week after if I'm in the zone. But now and then there's the weekend when I can't get to my craft room and then it's great to be able to do some quicker projects since I'm usually a slow crafter. The watercolor stamping technique that I made a tutorial on for Spectrum Noir is perfect for this.

The big feather is super pretty and is part of a set by Crafters Companion. The sentiment is from the same set. I just stamped the feather and the sentiment and finished off by splattering some Aqua Tints in gold over the panel. And there I had this weeks project for Design in Papers done and it still looks pretty good :)

I'll be back tomorrow with a Pretty Crafty Stuff creation. I hope to see you then!

Watercolor stamping with Spectrum Aqua

I totally adore my Spectrum Aquas. There are so many pretty colors and I love how they blend. When I was doing my tutorial for Spectrum Noir this month I revisited an old technique that works with basically all kinds of water based markers but I never really tried it with my Aquas before starting to experiment with it for my tutorial. It worked amazingly well, as I expected :) Klick here to get to the tutorial, if you haven't tried it before I highly recommend playing around because it is very easy, fun and gives a very pretty result.

I started out with these pretty butterflies. I made them really colorful and made a CAS card out of the panel.

Then I reached for this pretty holly stamp and made a very quick Christmas card. Great for mass producing. And the embossed sentiment makes it look special even though it doesn't take many minutes to make after you have planned it out.

I also made this card using my Flights of Fancy stamps, I love how they turned out. I splattered some ink ovet it to make it a bit more interesting and added glitter on one side. Because glitter always makes everything prettier.

I hope you got some inspiration! Thank you for stopping by, see you soon again :)

Partial Stamping - Winnie & Walter

Winnie and walter maya isaksson partial stamping

I used half of one of the stamps in the set Sparkle to create a sun and paired it with the words you shine. I thought it looked kind of fun. I added a really old cloud paper from my stash as a background and kept it simple. I was really just playing and thought it turned out cute. I never make square cards so it's pretty unusual for me.

And that's it for the challenges for WCMD at Winnie & Walter, I had fun!

Make it masculine - Winnie & Walter

Winnie and walter maya isaksson masculine

I made this card for the WCMD challenge Make it Masculine at Winnie & Walter. I stamped the chevrons in black and yellow, I love the combination. I stacked the sentiments and they were perfect to place in one of the gaps in the design. Pretty graphical and simple, perfect for a guy (or for me).

Be right back with another card for the challenges. I made four in total. :)

I really loved those stamps and couldn't stop. I made five (!) cards in two different styles for my post. This is one of my favourites. Hop on over to the Hero Arts blog to see the rest :) I hope you like them as much as I do.

Making snowy backgrounds

Maya Isaksson Design in papers lawnfawn winter card 2

I was playing with my Aqua Tints and made a couple of backgrounds and paired them with the lovely Lawn Fawn set Lets Toboggan Together. I was so happy with how they turned out. I colored the images with Spectrum Noir Pencils.

For my second card I made a little shaker window, filling it with embossing powder with glitter in it to make snow for the cute Winter Alpacka also by Lawn Fawn to stand on. It looks really cool.

I made a tutorial for the background in the Design in Papers blog and you can find it here but it's in Swedish so use Google translate with care or just look at the pictures and you'll get the general idea ;)

I'll be back soon, promise. You'll be fed up with me this week because I have a lot going on...

Red haired Gorjuss girl

Spectrum noir maya isaksson gorjuss watermarked

I got my first two sets of Gorjuss stamps in the mail the other day and they are so much fun to color. This red haired girl turned out pretty cute I think. I'm doing the 30 day color challenge this month so I'm doing a lot of coloring right now and really enjoying setting time aside just to color, not necessarily for the purpose of turning everything into cards. It's really therapeutic.

Anyways. For this I used the Spectrum Noir markers. Here's a list of colors used.

Hair: TN3, TN4, TN5, TN7, TN8
Dress: CG1, DG2, CG2
Skin: FS1, FS4, TN2, CR3
Bear: BG1, BG2, CR3
Flowers: CR3, CR1, CG1, DG2
Cards, mug: CR10, CG1, BG1, BG2, TN8

I hope you liked her! See you soon :)

Winnie & Walter WCMD challenges part 2

Maya Isaksson Winnie Walter cardmakingday15 2

So here's the card for the watercolor challenge at Winnie & Walter. I used the rest of the Masterboard and diecut the word hugs from the card front and from black foam and made a raised diecut. Since the background is very busy I also stamped the word hugs and on your day and attached to the word so the diecut word is more decorative than for reading.

It looks kinda cool from the side too. I'm happy with the effect. I hope you like it too :) Here's a link to the challenge and I'll try to make cards for some more challenges during the week. Tomorrow I'll be back with a Spectrum Noir creation and Wednesday is my day at Design in Papers with some fun Aqua Tints backgrounds. So I've got a full schedule this week. I hope you come back for more!
