Chibitronics and Winnie & Walter bloghop

Today I'm part of a collaboration blog hop between two of my absolute favorite companies in the craft world. Chibitronics and Winnie & Walter. I totally fell for the birthday themed stamp set called Wish Big with Evelin T Designs and I found some dies, In a Word: Birthday Tiles Cutaways, that was to die for. Sorry, couldn't resist it! The big birthday words were perfect to make a window with lights behind with and to add some extra fun I used a blinking effect sticker.

To use an effect sticker is not hard at all. Just connect the negative side of the battery to the - on the effect sticker and then on to the - on the LEDs. The + side of the battery (the top) goes to the + on the effect sticker. Then another connection from blink on the effect sticker and to the + side of the LEDs. My picture of the inside was after the foam tape was added and it looks super messy so I drew a picture of the connection instead.



The switch is of the type you pull out to start the lights. I have gotten the idea from Eiko on the Chibitronics team, it's pretty brilliant, here's a picture from a previous card to show you what it looks like.



So the switch is in the shape of an X and the copper tape goes around it to connect both sides of the cut circuit. I find that it doesn't drain the battery as easily because there is no connection before you want it. A regular push switch sometime connects when something is put on top of it or when you mail the card.

World autism day blog hop

Today I and the Chibitronics team is part of a bloghop for Autism awareness and we are lighting it up blue. April 2nd is the World Autism Awareness Day and the color blue is often used as a symbol together with the puzzle piece.

I think most of us are somehow connected to someone with autism, through friends or family. They are all amazing individuals in their own unique way and have a different perspective of the world that can be pretty fantastic. That's why I selected the sentiment Don't forget to be awesome. And of course, I lit it up blue using the blue Chibitronic LEDs.



To make the card I stamped and colored the front panel and cut out the balloons that are going to light up. To color it I used a couple of Distress Oxide inks and smooshed the background in them, focusing mainly on the bottom of the card where the dog would be stamped. I used my Misti to stamp the dogs in blue. I then colored the dogs using Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers in cool greys with pink for the cheeks. Then I added some Sparkle to some of the areas, glaze for the noses and eyes, and some white accents.

I also marked where the switch would be placed and sketched in the circuit.



As usual, I did everything backward and had to flip the battery. I added a fabric patch to make sure the copper tape won't break if it moves around a bit. I later added a piece of printer paper under it to make sure the tape wouldn't touch both sides of the battery. If I had put the battery the right side it would not have been necessary.



As usual, I forgot to take a picture when doing the switch. Basically, I just cut the paper using a craft knife. Added the switch I used fabric patches again on the inside of the switch and the edge of the paper where the switch is attached. I did this to make sure the copper tape doesn't break from sliding back and forth. Better safe than sorry. You can see the strip of printer paper here too.

I glued the finished card to a card base and added some Nuvo Drops to make it a bit more fun. I love these adorable pups by Mama Elephant.

I'm a lucky duck

I totally fell in love with the new Lawn Fawn release so I went a bit crazy when I visited my favorite store. These cute ducks had to move home with me and I love the mini picture frames and the peekabo backdrop. Naturally I combined all of them, more is more, right?



The inside complete the sentiment so the whole thing reads I'm a lucky duck to have a friend like you.



I made the backgrounds to the frames using Distress oxides, I colored the ducks using my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers (FS6, FS9, BO2,PP4, IG1) and added some patterned papers as wallpaper behind the frames. I added details with a white gel pen and some Glossy Accents to beeks and feet.

Lawn Fawn fairies

I made this card while crafting with some of my favourite people last weekend. I was there for a full day and only managed to finish two cards. But it's just as important to sit and talk all day, right? It was a great day actually and I got a lot of inspiration and energy with me home. Never underestimate the power of crafty friends, they are truly the best!

So this card is also blogged at Design in Papers today. I really loved the Winter Fairies stamp set so I had to get the original one too, even though I'm way after everyone else. I colored them using my Spectrum Noir ColourBlends, I really have grown to love colored pencils lately. It's so relaxing to color using them. Of course I added some shimmer to the wings with Spectrum Sparkle pens.

November challenge at Spectrum Noir

Hi everyone, it's time for a new challenge over at Spectrum Noir. This month theme is anything goes, but if you use the bonus theme that is Christmas/Winter then you are in the drawing for  $30/£30 in Spectrum Noir or Spectrum Aqua products. 

I made this shaker card with Lawn Fawns Faery Christmas. I have been playing a lot with the ColourBlend pencils lately and I have discovered that I really enjoy putting down a simple layer of Spectrum Noir markers and then do shading with the ColourBlend pencils. For this card I gave no line coloring a new try, I really like the look but I've had such a hard time to get it to look good. With this technique it was so much easier!

I really loved Jennifer Macguires trick on how to suspend some things in a shaker card and still let them move around a bit, by using thread behind the image. I didn't have any clear thread so I used a gold thread. I don't mind the thread being a bit visible. I had to do some card surgery because after putting it all together one of the fairies looked like she was about to crash land, but I managed to save it using a tweezer and some curses. ;)

Foil and sparkle butterfly

The reactive paint from Heidi Swapp is really fun to play with, I made a bunch of cards using foil for my posts at Design in Papers the last few weeks. This one was made with a stencil, pink foil and watercolors. The lovely stamp is by Sheena Douglass and I double embossed it and colored with Spectrum Sparkle pens. I made a bunch of backgrounds at once when I had the foil and the Minc out, and this was the last of them. I might experiment some more and make a few more. This is super fun. 

I will start working on some special projects for October soon. I can't tell you more than that I'm super excited about this. You will definitely want to pencil in a visit to the blog then because you don't want to miss this :) Fun times ahead!

I made this Art Journal page Inspired by (ok, totally CASing) this page from the Spectrum Noir blog. I must admit that I almost never use stamped images in my journals but the page was so cute and I had some Gorjuss stamps that I wanted to ink up so I went for it. It was great fun, I have neglected my art journals this spring and summer. I miss messing around and experimenting in it.

I Wheelie Like You Hamster Card

Last week I blogged this card for Design in Papers, I made a background using the eBrush and spectrum noir, splattered it with some cleaning solution to make it a bit motley. I added dots of glue that turned to blobs of glue when adding foil on top but I kind of liked it so I saved a corner of the original background and made this mini card featuring a Mermaid by Lawn Fawn. I love those stamps <3

This card is blogged today at Design in Papers. The team got to create from the same sketch and I made a card inspired by the rectangles and circles on the sketch. It was more of a scrapbook sketch so in the end my card looked nothing like it but inspired was the operative word. I used the minc machine with reactive paint and masking tape and created a shaker. I looooooove foiling everything now.

One of a kind

I love this unicorn set by My Favorite Tings. I tried stamping in grey and coloring with colored pencils by Spectrum Noir. I'm trying different papers for my pens, pencils and markers now to see if there is a difference. I wasn't very happy with this choice though. The pencils like a surface with a bit of tooth, but this was a bit too uneven so the pigment didn't reach all the places even though I was blending with blending solution. And I did a ink blended background that was a real struggle but the card is kinda cute. It just took a lot more work to get there.

August challenge at Spectrum Noir

I hope you are having a wonderful summer. Maybe you have some extra time to spend on crafting? If that is the case then I would love it for you to take part in this months challenge at Spectrum Noir. It could not be any easier than this months theme. Anything goes. Easy, right? All you have to do is to use Spectrum Noir products for coloring and post your work here and you have a chance to win some great prizes. 

I used Spectrum Noir Aqua Markers for my card. I used shades of red, yellow and pink and let them dry between layers to create this card. I Have done a similar sy before and it's so fun to keep adding layers and see if you like it.

Stamping with alcohol markers

I was browsing through the tutorials on the Spectrum Noir blog for inspiration and found this by Linda Hill that looked like fun. Did you know you van stamp with your markers? I tried it and it turned out pretty cool. I used some mixed media style stamps by Crafters Companion that I wanted to ink up for a while now.

As you know the markers dry too quick to stamp after you color on the stamp, but if you fill a sprayer with clear alcohol you reactivate the ink (alcohol solves alcohol). I used some cleaning solution but you can use colorless blender or rubbing alcohol too. I also used it to clean up my stamps after that, I think that even if I didn't get it off it wouldn't stain unless you use some other solvent based ink but I got my stamps pretty clean using the cleaning solution. I wasn't brave enough to try it on clear stamps, I'm not sure if the alcohol and photopolymer will play nice but my rubber stamp didn't get hurt as far as I could see.

Just breathe

I went to a crop and had a great day, meeting a lot of my crafty friends and had a lot of fun. I even won a challenge so that was super fun! I also had some time to shop so I got some new stamps to play with. I got two of Gummiapans drink stamps because I really love the style of them. Gummiapan is a Swedish company who makes rubber stamps and apparently dies too, I got a nice scribbled circle die too, it's super cool.

Anyways, I made this card using one of the stamps with my Spectrum Sparkle pens using some water on a brush to pull the color out like with regular watercolor in marker form.
