Little Outbursts of Creativity: Coloring with Spectrum Noir mediums

Since I took all the Spectrum Noir workshops in Birmingham and got to learn a lot about all the pens and markers and stuff, I promised to make a post for DESIGN in PAPERS about them. I decided to make one card using different techniques to color. I just wanted to show all the different kinds of results you can get by choosing different color mediums. I won't go in too deep here, I'll just show you the cards. If you know Swedish (or want to take your chance with google translate) you can find the whole post here.

I made flying dachshunds for my cards, coloring the dogs and the balloons with some different techniques and then I also made backgrounds using the AquaTints and different techniques. Here is my flying wiener (I just could not resist) colored with Spectrum Aqua Markers. Love these, they are wonderful to color with and blends very well. Also I used one of the AquaTint samples I made in Birmingham for a background, I just lifted up some color from the gradient background using a stencil and a spray bottle of water and dabbing it off. Really cool effect!

Here is my favourite of all the techniques. I used Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers and the Blendable pencils for extra shading. It makes all the difference. The background is an embossing resist using AquaTints on wet paper, just adding some color and letting it blend by itself.

Here I colored the dog with Spectrum Noir Blendable Pencils, he loks kinda soft and velvety using these pens. The background is made by dropping some AquaTints on the teflon craft mat and spraying with water, dipping the paper in it, drying and repeating until happy.

Here he is colored with just Alcohol Markers, added some spots to his butt. He is such a happy dog. I love coloring with alcohol markers. The background is made by painting on the turqiose AquaTint with a very wet brush trying to get an ombre effect, then after dryig I used some moist paper towels to dab off some color here and there making clouds.

And here they are, all happy flying dogs. So much fun to experiment with different coloring techniques. I did glaze all the balloons with glossy accents. Then I put them away to dry. Then I forgot about them and grabbed the paper they were temporarily adhered to when I was embossing something and stuck two of them to the table. Then I decided that glossy accents is not my cup of tea and grabbed the clear embossing powder instead. Same result, way way quicker and definitely more stress free. This is why I cant use anything with a longer drying time than my attention span (which is very short).
