July Challenge at Spectrum Noir - Summer love

This months challenge at Spectrum Noir is all about summer. I used my AquaMarkers to create a water color card with white embossing, using an old Simon Says Stamp stamp that is super cute.

Aren't those scribbly flowers super cute. I mixed pinks and yellows to get a warm color with some variations.

Stencils and AquaBlend pencils

For my tutorial at Spectrum Noir this month I did a video on how to use AquaBlend Pencils with stencils for a hand colored look. I had a lot of fun with this technique and made three cards.

You can find the whole tutorial over at the Spectrum Noir blog. Here's the cards I made.

Spotlight feathers

Maya isaksson spectrum noir kaisercraft feathers spotlight watermarked

I have been seeing a lot of fun projects using the spotlight technique lately. This tutorial by my Spectrum Noir teamie Brianna Loeffelbein made me want to try it. I wanted to put my own spin on it and used a die to cut a leafy circle around my colored piece of the image. I'm not 100% sure it was a good idea, it would brobably have been lovely with just a regular circle. The word die cut covered in Spectrum Sparkle (Clear overlay) and glossy accents was perfect though.

A little panda note

Maya Isaksson spectrum noir mama elephant watermarked

I have this new pad of lovely woodgrain paper, I always get new patterned papers when I see them but I rarely use them for other things than backgrounds for photos maybe. I was thinking it would be cool if you could color the wood so I had to try. I white embossed a stamp by Pinkfresh Studios and then I colored it in using my Spectrum Noir Colorblend pencils and it turned out really fun. The darker/brighter shades was the best for this if you wanted it to show up clearly. This paper pad is really smooth and the colored pencils works best on a paper with some tooth that grabs the pigments. So one dark layer was fine on this smooth paper but the paper did not grab enough pigment using the lighter colors to make it stand out much.

Supplies:
Spectrum Noir BG1, IG1, CR2, Blender and CR9.
Blendable Pencils: 063, 071, 043, 038.

Jackalope card with Lawn Fawn

Maya isaksson lawn fawn believe

For my post this week at Design in Papers I made a card using this cute Jackalope by Lawn Fawn. I colored it using SpectrumAquas and shaded with Spectrum Noir ColourBlend pencils. I kind of like that you can cheat a bit when you aren't happy with how your watercolor turned out, I reach for the ColourBlends to add some shading where needed. In this case I experimented with adding a purple-red shade on top of the pink to make the critter look even more unbelievable.

Thanks for stopping by. Today I will also be up with my Spectrum Noir tutorial on how to color critters using Spectrum Sparkle pens. So hop on over to the Spectrum Noir blog if you want to see a video on that. Here's how the card looked when I was done with it.

June challenge at Spectrum Noir

Maya isaksson spectrum noir june challenge lawn fawn watermarked

So it's a new month again and summer is really here now. We have had almost 30 C a few days now, I really love the warm weather. Next week schools out for the kids, they will be going to day care for a few weeks until my husband gets his vacation. I sadly have no vacation days since I started a new job in February so I'll be working but I still enjoy the weather from my office (that just happens to be at home a couple days/week so that's good).

Anyways, I was getting to the new challenge at Spectrum Noir. This months theme is use a diecut. I made this summery card using some Lawn Fawn dies and my eBrush with Spectrum Noir markers. I added Spectrum Sparkle pens to a couple of the clouds to make them shimmer. Pretty fun, right? Go see all the details on the challenge and I would love to see you join this month. Dies are so much fun so I'm sure there will be some great creations this time :)

Supplies used:
Spectrum Noir markers IB1, IB2, BT4 (used with eBrush)
Spectrum Sparkle pens Harvest Moon, Moonlight and Crystal Clear
Stamps and dies by Lawn Fawn

Sea you soon

Maya Isaksson Lawn Fawn mermaid card

I just love the latest release by Lawn Fawn, there was so many sets of dies and stamps that I need. A few got to move in with me. Ok more than a few. But not enough, I'll probably get some more at a later time ;) Anyways. I made a card with mermaids on a golden background. I just played with my Spectrum Noir AquaTints and was making a full background to see how opaque the gold paint was. Pretty opaque it turned out. I put my mermaids on it and kept it as it was, I just splattered som silver ink on it to make bubbles. The fish are painted with silver AquaTints.

I colored the mermaids with Spectrum Noir markers and added Spectrum Noir Sparkle pens for extra shimmer.

So it's very shimmery and glittery and pretty. I used WOW Atlantic sea spray for embossing the sentiment, because it amused me. And it's also super pretty ;) This was my creation for Design in Papers this week. Sea you soon again ;)

Mothers day card

Maya isaksson spectrum noir mothers day watermarked

I made this card for my mom because it was mothers day here in Sweden last weekend. I was going to post it earlier but the post office decided to keep it a couple of extra days so I had to wait for it to get to her first. I was inspired by this hair combination tutorial: http://www.spectrumnoir.com/hair-color-combinations/ for her beautiful long hair. The inside of the card says "No wonder I'm your favourite. Happy mothers day" ;) I think she enjoyed it and I hope she shows it to my brothers :P

Sparkly sea monsters

These cute critters are made for a tutorial for Spectrum Noir, I made a video about coloring with the Spectrum Noir Sparkle pens. It's not up yet but I will let you know when it is and also put up a link so you can watch it if you want to.

I think these creatures looks super fun with all the sparkle and color, I am usually a bit lazy and use the clear over something already colored but this gives such nice results that I will try to remember using the colored Sparkles more often.

Dream big

Design in papers stampendous maya isaksson 2

I made this card for my Design in Papers post this week, again with the houses by Stampendous. I used them a few weeks ago and oh yes, I used them last week but forgot to share them here. So here they are again.

A rainbow city colored with Spectrum Noir markers. Splattered with some gold mist. It looks so fun I think.

Next week I will not be posting houses. I have other things prepared for you. And my sweet friend Mary Dawn sent me some super fun stamps and a wonderful cover for my misti so I really want to play in the scrap room like now. But I will sleep instead and get back to you another day. Until then, have a great week <3

May challenge at Spectrum Noir

Spectrum_noir_may_challenge_maya_isaksson_watermark

It was only like last week when it started to hail and snow so much that it actually covered the ground for a few hours. And this week it's +25C and summer, flowers everywhere and I absolutely love this time of year. So how fitting that the challenge for May at Spectrum Noir is flowers. I used a pretty flower stamp that Marion Emberson designed for WOW Embossing powders. I haven't had the chance to ink it up but I had a few hours of fun coloring it up with the new AquaBlend pencils by Spectrum Noir and then shaded them with ColourBlend pencils and I might even have used the Spectrum Sparkles on top. I love using the AquaBlends on top of Sheena cardstock, it blends really good and it's easy to stamp on because it's perfectly smooth. I used a lighter ink to mimic the no line coloring style, but I left it dark enough for the details to show.

You can join the challenge here, just remember to use some Spectrum Noir products for your creation and to have fun!

Chalkboard and pastels

Maya_isaksson_simon_says_stamp_watermarked

I was playing with my AquaTints and made a background from one of the papers by die cutting it with a Winnie & Walter die and sticking it down on top of some plain white cardstock. I think the Pastel AquaTints are so soft and pretty and the background turned out really good. I stamped a speech bubble on vellum and since it was a large image and I didn't ink it up very well it ended up looking a bit chalk board-looking. I Did use my misti for this but chose not to double stamp it because it looked cool when you could see through spots of it. I flipped it over and stamped a greeting on it and attached it to the card. I like the contrast with the black on top of the pastels.

I hope you liked my card! See you soon again.

Paper pieced flower

Design_in_papers_kaiserkraft_maya_isaksson

Here's todays creation for Design in Papers, a flower that I paper pieced out of some patterned papers from a 6x6 pad by Dear Lizzy. I used a new stamp set by Kaisercraft that I think is super pretty. They have really made some lovely sets lately, too bad they aren't photopolymer stamps. They are a bit soft for my taste but with the MISTI it's ok to get good impressions anyways.

I used Spectrum Noir markers to shade and then I added Sparkle pens for shimmer. I think I'm addicted to Sparkle pens <3

I'll be back a bit later today with a blog hop with the new and old WOW DT. Come back in a few hours for a chance to win great prices!
